Mudskippers

                           True  or false?Fish can't come out of water. If you said true the you are wrong! The mudskipper  (Periopthalmus koelreuteri.) can come out.But this surprising fish doesn't breath air. It stores water in it's body. These fish are related to gobies.In these 2 pictures look at the similarities.

The Midnight Zone

There are 3 zones in the ocean.The topmost layer is the sunlight zone. In the middle,there is the twilight zone.The last zone is the midnight zone.In this blog, I am going to tell you about the the midnight zone.

The midnight zone has the least life in all 3 zones.An example of life is the  recently-discovered Yeti Crab.They have hair that helps them catch bacteria.This is how one looks like:

The yeti crabs' sientific name is Kiwa hirsuta.It is a crustacean.This species was discovered in 2005 by a group organized by Robert Vrijenhoek of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute in Monterey, California and Michel Segonzac of the Ifremer and a Census of Marine Life scientist using the submarine DSV Alvin, operating from RV Atlantis.<sup>The discovory though, was annouced in 2006.

Another form of life are Giant Tubeworms.Their scientific name is rifta pachpiutila.They are not anelids like leeches and earthworms,but they are a type of mollusk.Here is how some looks like:</sup>

The next organisim is bacteria.They start the food chain.They eat chemicals from black smokers.A black smoker is a volcano that has black lava and smoke due to the black minerals going through sea vents.I am positive there are more creatures out there.The only problem is it is not easy getting down there. This is due to water pressure.When you go down to the midnight zone, it feels like you have a schoolbus on your head!This is all I have to say about the midnight zone.

green anaconda

A green anaconda is the heaviest snake in the world. An adult can weigh over 550 pounds ! It can also grow up to 29 feet. That is long but the reticulated python is longer. Since its green you might think it lives in a forest , right? Correct . It lives in the amazon rain-forest in South America. This snake is a constrictor meaning its not poisonous,but kills its prey by suffocating it. Like other snakes, a green anaconda has open really wide. In fact they even eat caimans!here is a picture of one eating:

Some people have claimed to have seen a 30 or 40 foot anaconda. Now there is a reward of 50,000 dollars to anyone who can find and capture a 30 or longer anaconda.The prize has not been claimed, and i am positive  it will  be claimed. Green anacondas are one of the coolest snakes.

Protozoa and Metazoa

In the  creature world ,there are 2 types of animals.  Metazoa and Protozoa.Protozoa are singular celled. Metazoa  are multi-cellular organisms such as   Homo sapiens or  humans. An example of Protozoa is a  Stentor . Here a picture of a Stentor.

 So you get the idea , right? Fish , snakes , cats , dogs , primates , birds , amphibians , dolphins , bats ,  bears , raccoons  ,  cows , goats , sheep , hyenas ,monotremes ( like the platypus ) ,are all    Metazoa and some Protozoa are :

Volvox
Euglena
Paramecium
Amoeba
Stentor

But the ones that came first were  Protozoa. If you want proof , Take a living sponge , put it in a blender and 
take it back to the sea . You might think its dead , but its not! Sometime later if you look, you will see its all rearranged.The reason this happened was because long ago the Protozoa decided to live together to make 

life  easier . By the way , if you want to see   Protozoa , just go to a wetland , or a swamp and scoop up some 
water and put it in a very powerful microscope .
So even though protozoa and metazoa  are very different,
 there still living organisims.

Leeches

Almost everyone has heard of a leech .But not every one knows that not all leeches are parasitic. One thing they all are related to earthworms and  both are annelids. Annelids are worms that have segments. I bet you did not know this. Leeches are good swimmers. They swim in an S shape.Most leech species do not feed on human blood, but instead prey on small invertebrates, which they eat whole. The ones that are parasitic do eat blood though. If one does bite you, you wont notice it .This is because they have anesthetic in their saliva or spit. A long time ago people thought sickness was caused by bad blood . So they put leeches on  the sick .  Did you think that worked ? It  never did. Then they put leeches in hospitals again. They let the leeches feed on a spot near an operation. Their anticoagulant makes the blood keep flowing to the spot so it can heal faster.
 My dad told me if you put rock salt on a leach that is biting you , it will stop. Leeches are pretty
misunderstood.

 

Taipan Inland (Oxyuranus microlepidotus)

 The Taipan Inland is the world's most  venomous land snake.It is the most venomous land snake,but not that aggressive. In fact it is very shy . Did you know that they change color during the seasons. This is one in summer:

The first one is almost white, and the second is black.
 Like other snakes the Taipan Inland is a meat eater . The Inland Taipan consumes mostly rodents, small mammals and birds. Unlike other venomous snakes that strike with a single accurate bite then retreat while waiting for the prey to die, the Inland Taipan is known to deliver up to eight venomous bites in a single attack. 
So I guess they are not aggressive to humans , but to their prey.Taipan Inlands are cool.

Yellow Bellied Sea Snake

The yellow bellied sea snake is cool! It's tail is shaped like an oar which helps it to swim in the water. Yellow bellied sea snake eats ...you guessed it right- fish. The yellow bellied sea snake has a yellow belly to warn other creatures that it is . If you get freaked out that these snakes might hurt you, don't worry. These yellow bellied sea snake only lives in the deep part of the Pacific ocean. The Yellow bellied sea snake can also be near Hawaii. It almost always stay in water and is  helpless on land.

The Yellow bellied sea sea snakes breed in warm waters . they are ovoviviparous with a gestation period of about 6 months.Here is a cool fact:Did you know that

the Yellow bellied sea snake is related to the Cobra family?

This snake is capable of spending up to three hours underwater without surfacing and can swim forward or backward. It's nostrils face upward so it's easy to breath.The Yellow bellied sea snake is awesome !

The Pickpocketer

June 17,2020, at market street Sanfrancisco, a not so clever pick pocketer named Jim pick pocketed few wallets from different people. Jim rushed out of Market street and headed straight towards the beach. He panted for a while and then sat down on a bench. He pulled out few wallets from his pockets. The first wallet had nothing but few expired credit cards and only $3 "whoever had this must be poor" he said to himself. Then he went through the second wallet ...no luck here too "this guy should be a reckless!" Then Jim went through the third wallet which had $30 exactly and BART ticket "whola! this is good for today let me check my luck on the last wallet" said Jim. When he opened the last wallet, he couldn't believe his luck. The last wallet had an unexpired credit card, "wow! a credit card!" he shouted and danced in the public. Now Jim had a masterplan, he planned to go to Gold rush museum where a lot of people would show up to see the art display made out of gold in 1847. Jim used the credit card to purchase the ticket. As expected, there were quite a lot of wealthy people with all nice clothings and jewelleries. Jims mind was all set to gather all the wallets of all these people. He moved here and there bumped on few, pushed a few and collected a few wallets. Jims eyes were wandering until his eyes were stuck on the gold art. He started to plan to steal the art made out of gold as well. Jim never noticed or even thought that there were cameras mounted on the wall all over the museum. Jim took the axe which was kept near the fire extinguisher. He took out the match box from his pocket and burnt his scarf and threw it near the art which was made out of gold. He then shouted, "fire, fire, everybody run!" people got scare and soon evacuated out through the emergency exit. "Well, that was easier than I thought, now all this gold is mine!' he said to himself and broke the glass with the axe and took out the gold art. The burglar alarm and the smoke alarm went off and soon there were cops with guns surrounding him and soon came the firefighters as well. Jim said, "hey is this what you try to do to me after I have saved this piece of art?" without taking his eyes off from the gold. "Quit playing we know all your tricks" said the cops. "Well not all my tricks" said Jim who grabbed the fire extinguisher and sprayed it on the cops and tried to escape but the exits were blocked by the fire fighters. The next moment Jim found himself on the floor while a cop suppressing him and he was handcuffed and sent to jail.

Acid spitting snake

One hot summer day, Max and Kevin headed to Dr. Sam's office. "Dr. Sam, could you please take a look at this weired creature and let us know what it is?" said Kevin holding a jar with a moving creature inside it. Dr. Sam adjusted his glasses and sipped the water from his mug. Dr. Sam after a pause replied, "this is a rare snake which spits acid and eats Mongooses". He then paused again and after examining it for a while he said, "look at this red spot in between the eyelids. If a single water droplet touches this redspot then this snake will turn into a maneater".
Just then, Dr. Sam looked at the clock, "oh! my favourite video should have started now". As he switched on the Television, Dr. Sam saw the flash new where it said, the dam nearby started leaking and by night it is going to flood. Everyone in the room gulped. Kevin said, "ttt...oo....nnn....tonight?!" Dr. Sam, Kevin and Max ran out of the room leaving the jar behind. However, the snake managed to escape from the jar by slamming its nose on the jar and by breaking it. By the time, many people in the neighbourhood were in the BART station to move to a different location. A few people were able to board the plane while few others were heading to the neighbouring state while few others moved to other cities nearby in their car. Not even, a single creature were left behind except for the acid spitting snake at Dr. Sam's office.
The Acid spitting snake as soon as it came out of the jar it gave birth to 3 baby snakes. Just then, the dam broke and water gushed through Dr. Sam's office and covered the snakes. A magical scene took place, the mother snake and the baby snakes all started growing immediately. They grew up to 160 feet. Soon, they were all very hungry and craved to eat their favourite food the Mongoose. They searched everywhere and couldn't find a single mongoose or any other living beings.
Meanwhile, Kevin who was in the train said, "Oh! no I left Velma inside Dr. Sam's office". "Who is Velma?" asked the other two. "Velma is the acid spitting snake. I named her so!" They happened to see lot of Mongooses outside on the other side of track. Meanwhile, furious Velma and her babies had slithered all the way and spot these Mongoose. Velma and babies happily spitted out the acid from the fangs and it fell on a carriage which immediately got burnt up. As and when Velma and her babies slithered they pushed some of the carriages on which some of the people got badly injured but none died. Velma and her new born babies feasted on the Mongooses. Everyone except Dr. Sam, Kevin and Max ran away to save their lives. Kevin said, "why are we hiding here?" Sam said, "because, these kind of snakes have poor vision. They can only see straight and not side ways". Just then, one of the baby snake spotted Kevin and greedily opened its mouth and was about to gobble him up , while Sam started to cry as his brother's life was at stake. Kevin started to scream and both the brothers woke up from their sleep and said "what a terrible nightmare I had !"
Kevin asked Sam, "did you too have the Acid spitting snake dream ?" Sam said "yes" and they discussed about their dream and it was just one and the same dream they had. They had watched a terrible TV show the previous night which resulted in the terrible nightmare.

Crocodiles

Crocodiles are cold blooded, which means they are a type of reptile. Do you know that the largest crocodile has a bite force as much as a pickup truck sitting on you. This is the scariest part we know about crocodile but on the other hand, there is also another softer side to a crocodile which is about love and caring, by the mother crocodile. It is proven that among reptiles only crocodiles and their relatives tend both eggs and hatchlings, while other egg-laying reptiles hatch long after the parents have abandoned the eggs.

The mom crocodile go about digging underground to make the nest for the eggs. The mom crocodile will then lay 20 to 60 eggs in the nest and then she will bury it. She will then keep an eye on the nest and protect them from predators such as monitor lizards, honey badgers.

Few months have passed and the area will be full of squeaking sound. The mother will soon start to dig where the eggs were hidden by her in the underground nest. The babies start to come out. The mother crocodile takes care of her baby crocodiles until they are able to hunt adequately for themselves.

Yesterday was Hindi Day

It is my 3rd year learning Hindi language and I do not like to learn that language at all. Yesterday, we had a test in the class for which my Dad made me to study a lot which worn me out! First he was freaking me out with so many questions from the Hindi Text book then he made me write a lot. When my Dad was teaching me Hindi, I was constantly dreaming about scoring good marks in the test and a get a Hero factory toy which is a Villan and it will fight with my existing Hero toy! Just then my dad asked me a question, "what is stool in Hindi?" I answered "kapadi...." for which my dad gave me a strange look! He said that there is no such word as kapadi. I started thinking and came out with the word, "kapada"! My dad was really mad at me and he said "chowki is the Hindi word for stool". Having said this he made me to run around 10 times repeating, "Stool means Chowki".
Well, now I remember Stool is chowki. The story did not end there, next my dad gave me a piece of paper and asked me to write English to Hindi meanings. He dictated the first word Eyeglasses but what I wrote was,"I glasses" and wrote the Hindi meaning as Ainak. On seeing this my Dad really freaked out and we all laughed loud!
Then I went to the class and my mom who is a co-teacher in the Hindi class appeared with the question papers. Most of the kids in my class were not happy with the test. In the middle of the test, a few people were talking and one kid even left the class. I was the last person to finish the test but when I was done what a relief!!
The funny part is at dinner time, my dad still asked Hindi questions and I told him to stop asking me Hindi questions so that I can watch T.V and eat my dinner peacefully!
Now, I am eagerly waiting for my Hindi test results.

My brother is too small

I wish he was tall !
Then I went to sleep until fall
When he grew so tall
Even taller than the New Park Mall
I called him and called him,
But he could not hear because he was too tall !
I wanted him to play in my room
But he was too tall to fit in my room
I logged into my computer and started to Google
To figure out why my brother grew so tall
The reason was he bounced on the magic ball
The mystery is solved
I woke up from my sleep
I didn’t sleep until fall
I just slept one night and that's all !!!

The Brain Drain

Nerve nerve where are you going?
I hope not to the brain
I hate to tell you that the brain drained !!
The brain drained without knowledge
The girl never thought that her brain will drain
If she doesn't read!

Jaguar!!!!!!!

Once upon a time,a woodcutter was cutting some wood in a very,very,very big jungle it was full of wild animals which made him get scared. Soon he heard a "rroaaaaaaaaaar!"and
"jaguar run!".He ran to see the veiw. The jaguar was very huge.It could swallow an
anoconda! It can run as fast as 55 miles per hour! Then it saw the woodcutter.
It chased him all around the forest again and again. On the last lap, with a stick the woodcutter hit a tree,an anoconda then fell down on the jaguar wich got annoyed and was never seen again.

The Aquatic Adventure

On a sunny July afternoon, Sam, Don and John were craving for an adventure to sail back to the Dinosaur time in their time machine. Quickly, they hopped on to their time machine and set it to Triassic period. When they were about to land in the triassic period, John could not control his excitement that he pressed the landing eject button which threw them in the ocean. Good for Sam, Don and John they were having their life vest which had their parachute as well.
They all safely landed in the ocean and started to swim and explore the Ocean in Triassic period. Just then, a spikey swish came and damaged their life jacket one after the other. Sam was the first one to get hit and then cam Don and John. Sam, John and Don did not expect this and they started to go insided the water where they saw that the spikey think which struck them was the tail of a turtle! John took a picture of this turtle. The turtle was about 2 feet long and its tail was about 1 feet long. Sam, John and Don did not know the name of this turtle because they could not refer their Dinosaur dictionary because an Ichthyosaurus snatched it from John's hands and swam away. They were chasing it until a Macroplata managed to eat the dictionary. Then the Macroplata saw Sam, Don and John and chased them for its lunch. They swam towards the shore where their time machine was flying in the air. Don instructed to get their jet packs and pull the chord and fly towards the time machine. The reached the time machine and Don wanted to set off to the Jurasic period and he commanded, "off to the Jurassic Period". Whrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr........
the time machine landed in the Jurassic period.
The time machine landed near a river. Sam, Don and John took their new life vest and plunged into the water. It took a while for them to notice that they were swimming towards the ocean. Soon they entered the Ocean! The water current was so high that they couldn't get back to the shore. They started exploring the ocean creatures when Sam just swished and turned around he saw 35 sharks heading towards them. He quickly pulled his friends to the surface and told them about the sharks. As soon as Sam informed about the sharks he realized that the pack of sharks were under their foot and they stay put like a statue as they had read in the books that moving objects are likely to be a prey for the shark. The sharks got confused and went away. They swam in a differen direction where they found a herd of Peloneustes. A Peloneustes came towards them and was friendly. The pelonesutes communicated to the rest of its community and they were all friendly to Sam, John and Don. They had a small fish for a snack. The Peleneustes also gave Sam, John and Don a ride to the shore. Sam, John and Don had a great time and caught up with the time machine after waving a bye to the friendly Peloneustes and rest of its herd.
Soon the time machine took the 3 friends to Creataceous period. In the creataceous period, they decided to explore the aquatic animals and jumped into the water although Sam had already warned about the Kronosaurus and they still decided to go for the creataceous adventure. Sam's warning about Kronosaurus came true where a very big hungry Kronosaurus approached them. It chased them around and around and around which made them dizzy and only then they decided to spin in circles and then split in different direction the Kronosaurus had hard time chasing them and also lost energy and became dizzy. After a while the 3 friends united and swam for a while where they met an Elasmosaurus. Its neck was long and flexible that when it tried to chase fish and had a knot in its neck. Sam, Don and John wanted to help the Elasmosaurus. So Sam went close by and used a special technique to take away the knot in its neck. The Elasmosaurus was happy and it gave them a ride to the shore and fish for snack. It was dark and it was 9.00pm at night when they decided to come back home.

Dragon!

One hot summer day, in a huge Marsh land, three explorers named John, Jil and Jack set out on revealing the secrets of the Marsh land.
Jack said, "if we split out we can find out more secrets". Jil and John agreed and they all split out. It was very hot and the plants in this Marsh land were quite new to her and she was watching them as she walked slowly. Suddenly, a gigantic black thing appeared on the ground which was moving. It took moments for Jil to realize that it was a shadow of something which was above. She immediately looked up to see and to her surprise it was a big red fire breathing Dragon which was flying across.
The Dragon which was flying above changed its direction and turned towards Jil. The Dragon scooped down and grabbed her by its legs and Jil got terrified. Luckily, John and Jack saw the Dragon carrying their friend Jil. John and Jack chased the Dragon but the Dragon was flying too fast. Jack and John lost hope and were very sad for their friend. At this moment, John got an idea and shared it with Jack. John said, "if we could throw the camera to Jil and if she manages to catch it and take a picture of the Dragon's face, then the Dragon will get confused if the flash light hits its eyes and drop Jil down besides we will also get a close up picture of the Dragon".
Unfortunately, this brilliant idea of John's did not work out because, Jil could not catch the camera. She missed it and the camera hit the ground. At the same time the Dragon noticed John and Jack. It also understood that John and Jack were trying to take away its prey. The furious Dragon now started to chase both John and Jack. John and Jack ran fast and entered the village nearby. Soon, the villagers noticed the horrific scene.
At this moment, Jil found a big zip on the Dragon's belly. Jil zipped off the zipper and to her surprise she found that there was a person hiding inside the Dragon's belly and he was none other than her own brother Zack. Well, by now the Dragon landed on the ground and Zack came out and explained that he wanted to play a trick on her as it was Halloween!! Every body laughed and cheered with a great relief.

The Greedy Auto Driver

In a cosmopolitan city called Coimbatore in India there lived a very, very greedy Auto Driver named Ravi. Ravi was so greedy that all he would care for is "Money". Ravi would get the money in advance for the ride he gives to the people and drop them off at a place which is far away from their destination and go away with their money. Sometimes, he would collect the money and drop the customer in a nearby place itself which is not their destination. None of the customer who took a ride in his Auto were happy about it.
One summer evening, a clever man named Raja came by to take a ride in Ravi's Auto and asked, "can you give me a ride to Saibaba colony 10th cross?" "Sure", said Ravi and he demanded for 100 Rupees but Raja said he can only give 50 Rupees because the place he wants to go is quite close by. Ravi agreed but with one condition that he wanted the money right away. Raja gave Ravi 50 Rupees.
Ravi as usual stopped his Auto at Saibaba colony 1st cross and said, "get down your ride is over" but then, Raja said, "well, this is the place where I need to get down and I know you cheat every one like this. Actually, I tricked you by saying that I need to get down at 10th cross. Thanks for your ride" and walked away. For the first time Ravi learnt his lesson.

Dinosaur fight

In the early Jurassic period allosaurus, brachiosaurus and Stegosaurus were fighting. First the allosaurus wanted to eat the Stegosaurus. Luckily the brachiosaurus saw it and then it joined the fight. When the allosaurus was trying to lift the stgosaurus and eat it up, the brachiosaurus swung its tail at allosaurus and hurt it badly. The allosaurus tried to bite the brachiosaurus tail but instead got bumped into a tree. Year, after year the same thing was happening until the late Jurassic period. By this time all other dinosaurs in the Jurassic period got extinct leaving behind only the three dinosaurs.

Oil Spill in Gulf Coast

Recently I watched a segment in CNN about the oil spill in Gulf of Mexico. The aquatic life is suffering a lot because of this oil spill. My idea to clean the oil spill is to use a Filter. My idea is to invent a filter which when immersed in the water will filter the water and extract the oil away.
If you have an idea please tell me I will post it in this blog and if it is good then we can use it.
If you see oil in the water do not go inside the water as the oil will stick to your body and may be harmful!

Attack of the Dinosaurs

John took his time machine and went to the cretacious period again with his friends Don and Sam. It was a nesting ground for the T-Rex. It was time to go so John went by himself and left his friend Don and Sam. Luckily, Don and Sam had a time machine which they had got with them already. So, Don and Sam travelled in their time machine and went to the jurassic period. In this Jurassic period they saw a huge Diplodocus. Suddenly, an Allosaurus ran by and the other animals ran away before the Allosaurus could see them while Sam and Don were not that fast and the Allosaurus saw them. Way back in the human time, John realized that he left Don and Sam in the Dinosaur time. Sam and Don were running as fast as they can but the Allosaurus was catching up. Only John could save them as his time machine was fast. John came back to the Cretacious period looking for Sam and Don since the asteroid was approaching the earth, he took his time machine and went to Jurassic period. Sam and Don meanwhile managed to board their time machine and planned to go to Triassic period but alas their time machine broke down because the engine stopped working! Don and Sam were sad and scared of the Allosaurus which was getting closer to them. Suddenly, they heard a voice calling, "Sam.............. Don.................. it's me John.................." then they turned back saw that John was fast approaching towards them. They hurried to John who was with a weired looking machine. "What's that weired looking machine?" asked Sam and Don curiously to John. John said, "this is a machine which can transform you into any dinosaur that you like to be" Don and Sam thought for a moment while the Allosaurus was fast approaching towards them. They got an idea and said, "Lets get transformed into a Shunosaurus!" and immediately they got transformed into Shunosaurus. Don and Sam swung their huge tails on Allosaurus but the Allosaurus did not get hurt because it ducked and ran away. Don and Sam were happy and went to the transform machine and tried to get themselves transformed to humans again but unfortunately, the transformer machine did not know to convert them back to human beings. So they all got into the time machine and went back to human time period. Every one were scared to see Don and Sam. It was actually John's mistake that he wrongly made the transformer machine which would convert any one who prompts a Dinosaur name but will not convert them back into humans. So there was one person who exclaimed, "is that an Allosauraus" looking at Sam and he too got transformed into an Allosaurus. So every one kept their mouth shut and many people away and few were hiding. Fortunately, there was another iventor he made machine that can convert all these Dinosaur back into human being. He took the machine and put it on the Allosaurus which immediately back into human beings! Sam and Don are back!
